Tracking the spread of Omicron in India: list of states with new cases of variants

The Omicron variant quickly spread to India. On Friday, the total number of cases infected with the new strain of coronavirus surpassed 100 in the country. Alarmingly, 26 of these cases were recorded yesterday.

Friday was the fourth day in a row that the country’s Omicron tally saw a relatively large increase. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 new Omicron infections were detected across India, while there were 14 such cases on Thursday.

The Union Health Ministry has warned people to postpone all non-essential travel due to the spread of the heavily mutated variant, which is believed to be resistant to existing vaccines.

Delhi: The national capital now has the second highest number of Omicron cases in the country. Delhi’s tally of the new variant coronavirus reached 22 after 12 cases were recorded on Friday.
