January was meant to be packed with big film releases
New Delhi: January 2022 was expected with more theatrical releases. However, with the increase in Covid19 cases and restrictions imposed in different parts of the country, the creators of several large Bollywood and other multilingual projects have decided to move the release dates back. The list includes Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj and SS Rajamouli’s RRR, along with Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt. The creators of Radhe Shyam, with Prabhas, and Jersey with Shahid Kapoor, have also revised their film schedules. Deepukone’s Gehraaiyaan, OTT slated for release in January, now streaming in February.
SS Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, was due out on January 7th. However, the film’s release date has been moved. Produced by DVV Entertainments, the news of RRR’s delay was shared on January 1 by the producers on Twitter. “With the best interests of all parties involved, we are obligated to postpone our film. Our sincere thanks to all fans and audiences for their unconditional love #RRRPPostopened #RRRMovie,”

Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj, opposite Manushi Chhillar, was due out in January and was due to hit screens on January 21. However, the film’s release was expected, Bollywood business analyst Taran Adarsh reported. Producers Yash Raj Films have yet to announce a new release date.
The jersey showing the story of a cricketer who returns to cricket in his 30s by joining the Indian cricket team is expected to be released on December 31. The film’s release date has also been moved and the revised date has not been revealed at this time. It is a remake of a 2019 Telugu film of the same name. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film stars Shahid Kapoor in the lead role.
Meanwhile, Shakun Batra’s Gehraiyaan, which will be released on the OTT Amazon Prime Video platform, also has a new release date. On the occasion of her 36th birthday, Deepika Padukone shared new posters for the film which also features Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa. The film, which was previously slated for release on January 25, will now premiere February 11 on Amazon Prime Video.
Another movie release that has been postponed due to the COVID spike is Prabhas and Pooja Hegde’s romantic drama Radhe Shyam. An official statement has been shared announcing the delay in the social media release of UV Creations, which produces the film. In a tweet, the producers said, “We have to postpone the release of our film Radhe Shyam due to the ongoing covid situation. Our sincere thanks to all the fans for your unconditional love and support. See you in the theaters. ..! “with the hashtag #RadheShyamPostponed”.
