PM Inaugurates Noida Airport, Will Be Asia’s Biggest

The Noida International Airport will be about 72 km from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi airport, which is the only other international airport in the national capital region

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport, near Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district. Once operational, this will be UP’s fifth international airport – the most of any state.

November 25 is an important day for India and for Uttar Pradesh’s progress in building infrared infrastructure. At 1:00 p.m., the foundation stone for Noida International Airport will be laid. Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath said he expects investments of over 10,000 crore after the first phase and up to 35,000 crore after the airport is fully constructed. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said Noida airport will be the largest in Asia and will generate employment opportunities for more than a lakh of people.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the center said the development of the airport was in line with the prime minister’s vision of creating a “loan for the future aviation sector”. The center also said “special emphasis” on holding elections by the UP next year, with the BJP aiming to retain key state control ahead of the 2024 general election. The airport will be about 72 km from Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport, the only other international airport airport in the National Capital Region.

It will be about 40 km from Noida.It will cover 1,300 hectares and the work of the first (of the four) phases should be completed by 2024, when the Lok Sabha elections will be held. The estimated cost is ₹ 10,500 crore. The airport, however, was the subject of controversy following protests from farmers whose land had been purchased for construction. They camped in tents 700 meters from the airport. A local BJP MP admitted that the land was bought quickly.
